<p>For the very first time in our history, World Athletics is reaching out to the entire international athletics community to participate in a Global Conversation and contribute insights and feedback that will shape the future direction of the sport for the next decade.</p>
<p>This year World Athletics has committed to developing a World Plan for Athletics 2022-2030 in consultation with its Member Federations and other key interest groups, including athletes, coaches, officials, fans, schools, meeting directors, partners and media.</p>
<p>The World Plan will be a key document for all involved in the sport, setting out a roadmap for the growth and development of athletics through to 2030.</p>
<p>Its purpose is to listen to the athletics community, to identify where the sport stands now throughout the world, and to establish a vision and direction for the period through to 2030, setting out how both World Athletics, its Member Federations and Area Associations, and other people involved in athletics can work together to develop and grow the sport across the world. The plan will contain clear roles and responsibilities, timelines, measurable outcomes and resource and budget implications.</p>
<h2>Global Conversation to shape the future of athletics</h2>
<p>By initiating the &lsquo;Global Conversation for the Future of Athletics&rsquo;, World Athletics wants to give everybody involved in Athletics, no matter their background, role or location, an opportunity to be heard.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Today, we are embarking on an unprecedented Global Conversation with all those who love our sport and want to have a say in its future,&rsquo;&rsquo; World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said.</p>
<p>&ldquo;The global pandemic has highlighted the need and desire of governments and communities to keep fit and healthy. Athletics, as the most accessible and participated sport on the planet has a key role in helping to achieve this. Through this global engagement phase, I want to hear from everyone who cares about athletics and about health and fitness. Our</p>
<p>strength as a sport lies in the diversity of our community and we need to hear the voices of our key stakeholders in all of our 214 countries and territories in order to develop a plan that fully represents our global aspirations for athletics to grow and thrive over the coming years.&rsquo;&rsquo;</p>
<p>This worldwide campaign will run for a six-week period in the form of a survey available in 12 different languages. The responses will help to give World Athletics a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and how its community envisions the present and future of the sport. Through this open stakeholder-centric project, World Athletics wants to drive a fruitful conversation by asking its people to embrace the chance to speak up and help to bring further significant and necessary changes and developments to the number one Olympic sport.</p>
<p>A draft plan will then be developed for presentation to the World Athletics Council mid-year. Once accepted, a final plan will be distributed to the Member Federations for formal approval at the biennial World Athletics Congress in November 2021.</p>
<p>The process is being overseen by the World Plan Working Group, which comprises seven Council Members, chaired by former triple jump world record-holder Willie Banks, assisted by the Sports Business Group at Deloitte.<br /><br /></p>

<p>You could say it all started with one Paul William Bettany.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Last month, the star of Marvel&rsquo;s WandaVision got fans&rsquo; attention when he started teasing a new character arriving in the MCU spinoff series that had miraculously survived online leaks, which in turn meant that Evan Peters&rsquo; &ldquo;Pietro&rdquo; Maximoff definitely wasn&rsquo;t who he was referring to.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;There is one character that has not been revealed,&rdquo; Bettany told Esquire. &ldquo;And it is very exciting. It is an actor I&rsquo;ve longed to work with all of my life. We have some amazing scenes together and I think the chemistry between us is extraordinary and fireworks on set.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The internet immediately got busy trying to work out exactly who Bettany was chatting about, and which character from Marvel Comics they could be playing. Robert De Niro as Mephisto? Keanu Reeves as Nightmare? It must be someone big and important, fans reasoned, for Bettany to tease the upcoming cameo in such a way, and his co-star Elizabeth Olsen added fuel to the fire by indicating we could be in for a &lsquo;Luke Skywalker&rsquo;-level appearance.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>As more dream casting and fan theorizing took place, WandaVision&rsquo;s potential scope became amplified. Other X-Men could return! How about alternate, multiverse versions of deceased characters?! There were endless Reddit threads discussing it. Group chats took wild turns as people had fun shooting down each other&rsquo;s ideas. Everywhere you turned, podcasts and YouTube videos were wondering what WandaVision had in store. But when the penultimate installment started streaming on Disney+ at the end of February, the towering wall of overexcitement started to crumble.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In episode 8&rsquo;s post credits scene a weaponized version of Vision was revealed to be in SWORD&rsquo;s possession, and this &lsquo;White Vision&rsquo; was once again played by Bettany. The realization that we may have all been trolled quite expertly slowly dawned on us. Was the actor Bettany had &ldquo;longed to work with&rdquo; all his life that he had &ldquo;amazing scenes&rdquo; with actually &hellip;himself? Was it Paul All Along?</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ahead of the much-anticipated finale this week, WandaVision director Matt Shakman was was asked to address the possibility, and it certainly appears so.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m gonna let Paul Bettany answer that question,&rdquo; Shakman told HuffPost. &ldquo;He dug himself this hole. He can get out of it.&rdquo;</p>
<p>It may well be time for fans to lower their expectations of what WandaVision will deliver in its final episode. If there are no big cameos outside of Benedict Cumberbatch&rsquo;s Doctor Strange (more on that in a moment) and no villains other than Agatha Harkness, SWORD Director Tyler Hayward and White Vision to come, Marvel has been telling a much more focused story of grief, loss, and how Wanda Maximoff would finally become the Scarlet Witch.</p>
<p>That story has been incredibly moving for the majority of viewers, but Shakman knows that those who have become too invested in how much of a domino effect the series will have on the Marvel Cinematic Universe may feel let down.</p>

<p>Eliud Kipchoge and Dalilah Muhammad have been named the male and female World Athletes of the Year at the World Athletics Awards 2019, held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Saturday (23).</p>
<p>Kipchoge, the winner of the award last year, added to his phenomenal marathon CV in 2019. In April he captured his fourth victory at the London Marathon with a 2:02:37 course record, the third fastest performance of all time. The 35-year-old Kenyan followed up in October by blasting through the distance's two-hour barrier with a 1:59:40.2 performance at the Ineos159 Challenge in Vienna.</p>
<p>Muhammad, 29, broke the world record in the 400m hurdles twice this year, first with a 52.20 performance at the US Championships in July to eclipse a mark which had stood since 2003. Muhammad broke it again at the World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, clocking 52.16 in one of the championships' most eagerly-awaited finals to claim the world title for the first time. <p>With 50 days to go to the <strong>IAAF World U20 Championships Bydgoszcz 2016</strong>, many of the world&rsquo;s most talented teenage athletes are already showing their credentials to be considered as potential medal contenders when the Polish city stages the event between 19-24 July.</p>
<p>Konrad Bukowiecki is the overwhelming favourite to take the shot put gold on home soil and is guaranteed huge support from the local crowd.</p>
<p>The Pole has already put the 6kg implement 22.94m earlier this month, just six centimetres short of the world U20 record, and is almost three metres better than anyone else so far this season.</p>
<p>Even more impressively, the 19-year-old from Szczytno sent the senior shot out to an outdoor world U20 best of 21.01m at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic, 10 days ago.</p>
<p>Greek pole vaulter Emmanouil Karalis was another young athlete who impressed in Ostrava, clearing a world U18 best of 5.55m.</p>
<p>However, Karalis is likely to face some tough rivals in a year of unusual depth in the U20 pole vault ranks.</p>
<p>USA&rsquo;s Chris Nilsen has cleared 5.60m while Sweden&rsquo;s world youth champion Armand Duplantis went over 5.49m indoors and has twice gone over 5.40m outdoors this summer.</p>
<p>A further world U18 best this month came from another world youth champion, Cuban long jumper Maykel Masso, who leapt 8.28m in Havana on Saturday, a mark which also propels him to equal-third on the world U20 all-time list.</p>
<p>On the track there have been outstanding world-leading U20 marks from Saudi Arabian sprinter Abdullah Abkar Mohammed, who has clocked 10.04 for the 100m to go equal-seventh on the world U20 all-time list, while Ethiopia&rsquo;s Abadi Embaye was fourth in the 5000m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Shanghai in 13:02.49.</p>
<p>On the women&rsquo;s side, there is another huge home favourite in the shape of sprinter Ewa Swoboda, who set a world indoor U20 60m record of 7.07 in February and already leads the 2016 world U20 100m lists with the 11.18 she ran in Austria last week.</p>
<p>In the 200m, USA&rsquo;s Kaylin Whitney is still young enough to defend the title she won in Eugene two years ago and showed that she&rsquo;s in good form with a time of 22.84 last month, but she&rsquo;s one of no fewer than seven U20 women who have broken 23 seconds already this year, led by Sada Williams of Barbados who has run 22.61.</p>
<p>Ethiopia has two outstanding teenage middle-distance runners, Habitam Alemu and Gudaf Tsegay, who have run 800m and 1500m list-leading times of 1:59.14 and 4:00.18, marks which have also propelled them into the top 20 on the world U20 all-time lists for their disciplines.</p>
<p>Like with the men, several women who won in Cali will be hoping to add to their medal collection in Bydgoszcz, including Japanese javelin thrower Haruka Kitaguchi, who threw a national U20 record of 61.38m at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Kawasaki earlier this month.</p>
<p>All in all, the performances of the world&rsquo;s top U20 athletes so far in 2016 suggest that the IAAF World U20 Championships Bydgoszcz 2016 will be one of the best ever championships in this category. And there is another 50 days for the best of the rest to also get in shape.</p>

<p>A 50 jours de l&rsquo;ouverture des <strong>Championnats du Monde U20 de l&rsquo;IAAF, Bydgoszcz 2016</strong>, un grand nombre des meilleurs jeunes athl&egrave;tes du monde sont d&eacute;j&agrave; en train de s&rsquo;imposer comme des m&eacute;daill&eacute;s potentiels lors de cette manifestation, qui se tiendra dans la ville polonaise du 19 au 24 juillet.</p>
<p>Ainsi, Konrad Bukowiecki est l&rsquo;immense favori pour d&eacute;crocher l&rsquo;or devant son propre public, qui ne manquera certainement pas de lui apporter un soutien franc et massif.</p>
<p>Le jeune Polonais a en effet projet&eacute; le poids de 6kg (la norme en U20) &agrave; 22,94m plus t&ocirc;t ce mois, &agrave; tout juste six cm du record du monde de sa cat&eacute;gorie d&rsquo;&acirc;ge, et une distance de pr&egrave;s de trois m&egrave;tres plus importante que la meilleure r&eacute;alis&eacute;e par le plus proche de ses adversaires &agrave; date cette saison.</p>

On soulignera toutefois que six autres coureuses de la cat&eacute;gorie des U20 sont d&eacute;j&agrave; descendues sous les 23 secondes cette ann&eacute;e, la plus rapide &eacute;tant, pour l&rsquo;instant Sada Williams, de la Barbade, avec un temps de 22&rdquo;61.</p>
<p>L&rsquo;&Eacute;thiopie pourra compter sur deux adolescentes de tr&egrave;s haut niveau dans les &eacute;preuves du demi-fond, Habitam Alemu et Gudaf Tsegay, qui ont couru le 800m et le 1500m en, respectivement, 1&rsquo;59&rdquo;14 et 4&rsquo;00&rdquo;18, des performances qui leur ont valu de se hisser dans les vingt plus rapides de tous les temps en cat&eacute;gorie U20 pour leurs disciplines.</p>
<p>Tout comme chez les hommes, plusieurs femmes m&eacute;daill&eacute;es &agrave;&nbsp; Cali vont &ecirc;tre en qu&ecirc;te de nouveaux podiums &agrave; Bydgoszcz. Parmi celles-ci est la sp&eacute;cialiste japonaise du lancer de javelot, Haruka Kitaguchi, qui a &eacute;tabli un nouveau record national des U20, avec un jet mesur&eacute; &agrave; 61,38m lors du meeting du Challenge mondial de l&rsquo;IAAF de Kawasaki, qui se tenait plus t&ocirc;t ce mois.</p>
<p>Le fait est que les nombreuses excellentes performances r&eacute;ussies par les meilleurs athl&egrave;tes U20 depuis le d&eacute;but de 2016 tendent toutes &agrave; indiquer que les Championnats du Monde U20 de l&rsquo;IAAF, Bydgoszcz 2016, seront parmi les meilleurs championnats jamais tenus dans cette cat&eacute;gorie. Sans oublier qu&rsquo;il reste encore 50 jours pour que ceux qui les talonnent actuellement aff&ucirc;tent encore leur forme &agrave; temps pour le Jour J.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p><div style="font-size: 0.8em;"><p><strong>&lsquo;For The Record&rsquo; Competition Terms and Conditions</strong></p><p>These rules supplement World Athletics&rsquo; Website Terms and Conditions clause 11 concerning the conduct of competitions organised and run by World Athletics. By taking part in this competition, the participant (the &ldquo;Competitor&rdquo;) accepts these rules and the Terms and Conditions of the Website (the &ldquo;Rules&rdquo;). In case of conflict between the Terms and Conditions of the Website and the present rules set out below, rules below will take priority.</p><p>1. WORLD ATHLETICS AND THE COMPETITION</p><p>World Athletics, an association recognised under the laws of Monaco with head office located at 6-8 Quai Antoine 1er, BP 359, 98007 Monaco, has decided to organise a competition &ldquo;For The Record&rdquo;&nbsp;to win a piece of athletics memorabilia from 19 February 2021 up to and including 1 March via the&nbsp;sign-up form on worldathletics.org (the "Website").</p><p>2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRIES</p><p>The Competition, is open only to:</p><p>&bull; fans aged 18 and over. Only one entry per person is permitted and spammers will be&nbsp;disqualified. Entries from individuals or their families connected to World Athletics are not accepted and automatically void.</p><p>&bull; Entries must include the NAME of the person nominated as &lsquo;personal inspiration&rsquo;, and the&nbsp;REASON why this person has been an inspiration to them in athletics.</p><p>&bull; Entries must be received by Monday 1 March 2021 midday (12pm) Central European Time.</p><p>3. THE PRIZE</p><p>The prize that will be awarded will consist of a piece of memorabilia provided by an athlete as&nbsp;outlined in the rules. There is no prize alternative and the prize is non-transferable. The prize is as&nbsp;stated and cannot be sold or exchanged for cash, goods or services. World Athletics will arrange and&nbsp;pay for the costs of delivery of the prize to the winner.</p><p>4. CLOSING DATE</p><p>The closing date for submission is 1 March 2021 midday (12pm) Central European Time.</p><p>5. WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT</p><p>All entries shall be judged by a panel consisting of the CEO, Executive Director of Communications, Head of Marketing and the Chair of the Athletes&rsquo; Commission and the winner shall be announced by&nbsp;World Athletics on its website, social media platforms and channels. The winner of the Competition&nbsp;will be permitted to communicate their selection/win on social media only AFTER the&nbsp;announcements have been made officially by World Athletics on one of its official channels.</p><p>6. WINNER PUBLICITY</p><p>Entrants accept that World Athletics will have the right, without additional payment or permission, to&nbsp;use their (as well as any other person featured in submission) name, age, town and country of&nbsp;residence, likeness, and photographs, for the purposes of announcing the winner of this prize and for&nbsp;related promotional purposes, which includes, without limitation, promoting the Competition or the&nbsp;business of World Athletics in any communication, on any media worldwide.</p><p>7. DATA PRIVACY</p><p>Entrants consent to the use of their personal information by World Athletics for the purposes of&nbsp;organising the competition and if they win to the announcement and publicity on them as a winner of&nbsp;the prize. All personal information submitted will be held in accordance with World Athletics&rsquo;&nbsp;Privacy Policy.</p><p>8. CANCELLATION AND WAIVER</p><p>World Athletics and the promoter reserve the right at its sole discretion to (without prior notice):</p><p>- cancel the competition; and/or</p><p>- to substitute the prize for another prize of equal value.</p><p>The winner therefore waives the right to any claim and any recourse against World Athletics&nbsp;regarding the prizes, in particular its quality or any consequence arising from the Winners use after&nbsp;taking possession of the prize.</p></div>
